MK Dons striker Scott Twine attracting interest from Premier League and Championship clubs

FORMER According to sources, at least seven Premier League and Championship clubs have expressed interest in signing Swindon Town attacker Scott Twine this summer.

West Ham United, Burnley, Norwich City, West Bromwich Albion, Middlesbrough, Stoke City, and Nottingham Forest are all rumoured to be interested in signing the striker, who joined Milton Keynes Dons just a year ago.

Twine, 22, left the County Ground after his Town contract expired last summer, with the club earning an initial £300,000 from MK Dons after signing for Liam Manning's side.

The tribunal agreement also stipulated that Swindon receive 20% of any future sale, and with estimates ranging from £3 million to £5 million floating about, owner Clem Morfuni will be looking for a major bidding war.

Twine signed a "long-term deal" with Stadium:MK when he arrived in 2021, but he could already be on the move after the Buckinghamshire club failed in their play-off attempt last week.

Despite being overwhelming favourites in their two-legged match against local rivals Wycombe Wanderers, MK lost the away game 2-0 before winning the home game 1-0.

Twine had a fantastic season, winning the EFL's League One Player of the Year title after scoring 20 goals and providing 13 assists in 49 appearances.

The Swindon-born forward also scored four goals in one game against Plymouth Argyle on the final day of the regular season. MK won 5-0 to clinch third place in League One and deny the Pilgrims a place in the play-offs.

"We'll definitely be doing our work to strengthen the squad and make it better, but it's the industry we're in so there's always going to be speculation," MK boss Manning told ITV after the club's aggregate defeat to Wycombe on Thursday (about the future of star players).

"You must ensure that you are prepared for any changes that may occur."

Twine has been with Swindon since he was 12 years old, and after graduating from the club's academy under the tutelage of Alan McLoughlin, he signed professional terms in March 2017.

Twine then made his senior debut for Charlton Athletic late in the 2016/17 season as a second-half substitute in a League One match, before heading on loan to non-league Chippenham Town, League of Ireland Premier Division side Waterford, and League Two Newport County.

Twine scored seven goals and added three assists in 25 games for Swindon in his final season.
